HazMat Awareness Training for EMS & Public Health
The NEMRC sponsored an EMS-ICS/HazMat Awareness class in two sections during the last week of June. The six hour course was taught in a one day session for people who were able to get the day from work and in two evening sections for those folks who could not. The course enables participants to identify the basic chemical and physical properties of hazardous materials, and to understand monitoring/identification equipment and available detection methods.
Students gained a basic understanding of the ICS system and left being able to identify the elements of ICS necessary to coordinate response to an "all hazards" indicient in their communities. The basic introductory course was taught by seasoned Department of Fire Services Instructors.
